Kim's jealousy was not a good enough reason for breaking up what had been a happy marriage. So what if Alex was missing her, she had been his wife and she died.
I think she should have lived happily ever after with Thomas. Though that wouldn't have made for as good a story, I suppose. Still though. Buddha "oversaw" each of Kim's reincarnations.
While I enjoyed his appearances as first "an extremely corpulent ant" and later as overweight versions of each of Kim's later reincarnated forms, I wondered "why Buddha?
But on page , in Chapter 42, after her death as a dog, Kim wakes up in nirvana's antechamber in her human body and Buddha is there to greet her.
She declines her admission into nirvana, and becomes Maria as said earlier. On page , we have this exchange: view spoiler [Kim's thoughts "were forming one big question mark in my head.
I was glad to have this until-then-lingering question answered. Though I did wonder why it took Kim so long to question his presence.
Lastly, I did enjoy this book, it was pretty great and I loved certain parts of it, as shared above, but the things I did not like feel pretty huge to me, so I'm giving what otherwise might well have been a five-star book just four stars, for being a "very good story that I really enjoyed.
After his stint as a cat, he "too" was reincarnated as a human. And like Kim-Maria, he was reincarnated into an overweight male's body.
So they had a happy ending, too. In what turned out to be the final footnote from Casanova's memoirs, we learned ". Enchanting Nina, who had naturally become my signora, worked as a travel agent.
As for me, I wrote erotica for a living. Nina, who looked after our offspring in a thoroughly exemplary manner, must have earned some good karma by so doing, whereas I earned some by helping people to enjoy an infinitely more creative love life.
We never heard more about him, unfortunately I just couldn't bring myself to read any more of it. It was outright BAD. I didn't laugh, chuckle or even smile, the protagonist was just horrible.
I cannot say it enough, it was not in a funny way, or in a way where you're like Yeah, but at least she can grow.
Or at least she's decent with this or that. Or at least it's nothing too serious. She is awful, annoying, one dimensional, and reading about her is plain boring.
But, David Safier, his publishers, and enough readers must have experienced it differently for us to be here today. So this one is on me.
I'd just like to know which parts were experienced as funny or engaging because I can't see it and I don't understand how any of it could be.
The surreal scenario coming into play didn't have me engaged either. I can see people finding it so surreal that maybe it's funny, but then it turned quite gritty fast, and Again, I don't see the fun, and the protagonist is certainly not engaging enough to have me care for her situation.
Bad Karma had a fine concept. Not original, but with many adjustments, it could've turned into something great anyway. It didn't.
Nov 25, Sherry rated it it was amazing Shelves: forever-favs. I tried to find an American addition of this book, but, alas, I couldn't find one.
It's only a matter of timi and a lot of my friends speak German. It was so great! The book begins as she wins a prestige TV news award.
That evening while standing out on the balcony of her hotel room, somewhere For those who don't speak Germna, Mieses Karma means Terrible Karma.
That evening while standing out on the balcony of her hotel room, somewhere in space, the Russians are very delicately moving an old space station further into space where they then blow it up!
They succeeded in turning everything into space dust, except for one thing The sink falls to earth, hurtles through earth's atmosphere, until falling right on top of Kim Lange.
She wakes up and finds herself under ground in a very strange body. She can't figure out who or where she is until Buddha appears as an ant.
Kim has reborn as an ant seems she didn't gather enough good karma throughout her life. With the help of THE Cassanoavo, she sets out trying to gather as much good karma as she can so she can be reunited with her family.
The things that happen along the way are both hilarious and insightful. Cassanova as Kim's unfailing ally is so funny. He's lived lives as an aunt and would like to move up to something more prestigious.
A guenia pig, for example. My favorite parts were the asides footnotes : aus Cassanova's Errinerung from Cassanova's memmory. I also love the scene where Buddha tells Kim what really happens in the afterlife.
Those who believe in God go to Jesus. Muslims go to Mohammed. People who believe in Buddhe go to Buddha. He also takes on people who didn't believe anything.
And those who believe in the god Odin get sent to Walhalla. Whenever Jesus and I get together for dinner with him, all he does is complain about how nobody believes in him and maybe if he had his own PR people he could get some believers.
If you find an edition in English, buy it! Don't even waste your time checking it out of the library first. This one's a keeper.
If you speak German, go to amazon. It's cheaper than the shipping. View 1 comment. Mar 24, Kassiopeia rated it did not like it. A friend recommended this book to me as "really funny", so I thought I'd give it a shot, but it's chick lit, so I should have known better.
The story sounds kinda interesting - a successful tv presenter gets killed by some space junk and reincarnates as an ant, because she collectet too much bad karma during her lifetime.
However, live as an ant doesn't last very long either, she almost instantly gets killed and - who would have guessed it - born again as some sort of animal During her time as different animals our heroine learns of course a lot about herself and the people she left behind and that's all very interesting to read and written in a funny and amusing way and probably more stuff I can't remember.
At some stage she's indeed getting reborn in the body of a rather obese woman, who, quite handy, just died herself and then the story proceeds for a few more chapters, but I was bored and annoyed and skipped a lot of them.
I think there might be a cheesy, happy, moral-packed ending but I couldn't be bothered. Jul 19, Kathi rated it did not like it Shelves: never-again.
This book makes you smile, it might even make you laugh. The general plot idea isn't even half bad, yet when you are finished you feel like you've had lunch at McDonalds.
It tasted okay enough while you ate, but leaves you a little queasy. This book entertains you at times, but in the end you feel slightly dumber than before you started reading it.
Oct 09, Julia Reim rated it liked it. A funny and very easy read but nothing that had great meaning for me.
It was a refreshing and interesting book for when you are in a reading slump for example but other than that nothing overly funny or exiting allthough some scenes make me giggle.
Sep 23, Elena rated it did not like it Shelves: auf-deutsch. Quoting Scott Pilgrim: This is This has to be the most unfair review I've ever written.
Funny and clever. The ending was a good one, although I didn't like the way it took to get there. I read this book a few years back and I must say it is one of my many, many favourite.
David had a genius idea with the story and the characters he created are just so real. The book is in the first person of Kim Lange, a tv women, famous with the biggest career, married and with a daughter.
You know, that someone that we see on tv and think that girl must have it all. And we get to know her, her large ego, and her life after she passed away through her own voice.
I must say that I never I read this book a few years back and I must say it is one of my many, many favourite.
I must say that I never thought to read a book written by a men with a women as a main character but… that could actually be written by a women.
Kim character is just so well built, in her worst and best and my favourite character in the book by the way. To me this book is the perfect mix of light reading, a bit of life philosophy and reflection, positive vibes and with so much humour… OMG, I can tell you it is hilarious.
And of course, if there is reincarnation, you will have Buda in the story and he does not make this easy on her. In conclusion: perfect reading after a hard day just to have a good laught.
Aug 06, Eileen rated it it was ok Shelves: It was entertaining but there were so many stereotypes in it that I couldn't enjoy it that much.
Really really enjoyed reading it. I'm rating 4 stars because I did not like the choice of language at all times.
I like that it was written in colloquial language, but sometimes it felt too loose. Overall it was an easy-to-read book, funny and very entertaining.
Jul 13, Antonieta rated it liked it. Great book, Mieses Karma pdf is enough to raise the goose bumps alone.
It's always fun to read David Safier books. Add a review Your Rating: Your Comment:. The Karma Club by Jessica Brody.
No, David! Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson. Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep.
